You don't need to install it. Just open the nekopara_vol1 folder and run nekopara_vol1.exe

There's nothing in there for me except 'emotedriver.dll'

To get the facts straight:

1) ALL R18 versions (both download AND physical) are shipping from Japan, hence they are censored. Sorry but that's how it is now (that's the price we have to pay for a simulrelease). Unless someone like Mangagamer picks this later, this is as best as we can get. Remember, NEKO WORKS is selfpublishing this, and they have to abide to the shitty Japanese laws regarding pr0n.

2) There is no such thing as a "western version". The release-day versions are the same for all markets, no matter if you pick it from DLSite or if you went all the way up to the C87. It ships with Japanese, English and Chinese.

The installer ~~should~~ work, as DLsite copies are supposed to be DRM-free (and it worked for me, welp).

There isn't going to be a uncensored "western version", period. The game is licensed outside of Japan by Sekai Project (thus Mangagamer, JAST and the likes won't be able to get it), and they say they have no plans on releasing the R-18 version worldwide.

I bought it from DLSite, and indeed there is no DRM (just a bunch of signed KiriKiri files, and a installer you don't have to use if you don't want to).

Also as for Sekai Project involvement on this: they did not licensed the R18 version (NEKO WORKS is in charge of worldwide distribution of that), and the all-ages version seems to be restricted to Steam only.

It's a Kirikiri game, they AREN'T GPU-bound, yet developers are free to use shaders and shit. Just make sure to not use some bottom-of-the-barrel Intel IGP or anything from ATi.

I never said the game ~~doesn't use the GPU~~, I said the game is ~~CPU-intensive~~. It's not something a low-end GPU would struggle to run at 60fps (FPS limit is adjustable, btw); that doesn't mean it doesn't use DirectX at all. It is a fact that most people lagging suffer from CPU problems (the game takes up a full core from my FX-4300 @4.6GHz and about 1GB of RAM on ANY OF IT'S SCREENS (including the menu))

The game won't display the main menu but I can still hear the music and I can move my cursor via arrow keys. Using a screen shot from a friend to guide me, tried starting the game but I got this error. Anyone knows what it means? and how do I fix this?

@Zippy8k: Try redownloading, if it doesn't work run as administrator, if it doesn't run use AppLocale (set locale to Japanese).

@herlangga-sama: The mosaics will be removed if it gets an official eastern uncensored R-18 release. It's impossible to actually "decensor patch" (I don't consider someone actually redrawing the scenes as uncensored as an actual decensor patch, btw) this game as the mosaics are in the actual image files instead of being rendered real-time. EVERY Japanese VN will be censored, deal with it.

Am I the only one where it just crashes when you reach the part when you get the three takoyaki's? I tried installing the game, just playing it, and delete and re-downloading it but it's still the same...

@deathmire: Played the whole game, both Steam and DLsite versions, no crashes on my end.

Fun fact: you CAN "upgrade" the Steam version to the R18 version (and still keep achievements, card drops and all other Steam shit, assuming you PAID for the Steam version) by just replacing the files, and adding "-steam=yes" to the game launch parameters on your library.

@dilworks: Do you really have to replace the files? I thought data.xp3 contained the achievement checkpoints, hence the Steam data.xp3 is some KB bigger. Maybe replace the .exe and add adultsonly.xp3 from this version?

While I've yet to install the game from Steam, if you check the game hub you will notice that people have tried adding "adultsonly.xp3(.sig)" only to end in failure. However, noone has tried isolating which files are exactly in need to be swapped, hence the easy way out of "replace everything".

The installer doesn't work for me; it says 'copy failed'. The nekopara_vol1 also only has emotedriver.dll in it, no .exe.

I found a solution to my own problem lol. When extracting from the .zip, don't extract everthing, only the files inside the "nekopara_vol1". For some reason, when I extracted everything all at once, the files inside nekopara_vol1 mysteriously disappeared, save for "emotedrive.dll". Then, just execute nekopara_vol1.exe.

As for decensoring the mosaic, are you sure it's not applied in realtime? I've seen some animated H-scenes video, the mosaic change color and are always in place while the drawing underneath moves. Looks a realtime filter to me.
Sadly I have zero knowledge about disassembling it, not to mention modify.

Interesting. It could be a custom shader. I've seen those on some Unity erogames, and since there are tools to unpack and repack Unity data, it's almost trivial to get rid of those. But then, this is Kirikiri/KAG -strictly a 2D engine-, and I haven't heard yet about anyone doing that class of realtime effects - it could be a first, who knows...

Don't worry, I've paid TWICE for it. But yeah, JewPal sucks ass since it will not let you pay for pr0n becuase LOLAMURRIKA. Animated H-Scenes are not rendered realtime, they're h264 files, so nope.
Also, Kirikiri is as easy to extract as Unity is.

Those of you having it crash at the takoyaki scene in ch. 1, go to the nekopara_vol1 shortcut and right click "Troubleshoot Compatibility" or "Check Compatibility" and run it with the service pack it suggests. Worked for me.
